Cleaning the oven is one of the most dreaded household chores, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, there’s a simple solution that can make the task a breeze: a pumice stone.

Yes, you read that right. A pumice stone, the same tool you use to remove dead skin from your feet, can be a game-changer when it comes to cleaning your oven. Not only is it effective, but it’s also non-toxic and affordable.

So, how does it work? Essentially, a pumice stone is a natural abrasive that can help remove stubborn stains and grime without scratching or damaging the surface of your oven. By gently scrubbing the affected areas with a damp pumice stone, you can lift away even the toughest of stains, leaving your oven looking as good as new.

A pumice stone is a natural volcanic rock that is formed when lava and water mix. It is a porous stone that is lightweight and abrasive, making it perfect for cleaning and scrubbing. Pumice stones are commonly used to remove dead skin from feet, but they can also be used for a variety of cleaning tasks around the home, including cleaning ovens.

One of the great things about using a pumice stone to clean your oven is that it is a natural, chemical-free solution. Unlike harsh oven cleaners that can be toxic and leave behind a strong smell, a pumice stone is gentle on your oven and won’t leave behind any harmful residue.

When using a pumice stone, it’s important to make sure that the stone is wet. This will help to prevent any scratches or damage to your oven’s surface.

Why pumice stones are perfect for cleaning your oven

Pumice stones are abrasive, but also gentle, which makes them ideal for tackling tough stains and grime, without causing damage.

Here are a few reasons why pumice stones are perfect for cleaning your oven:

  1. Safe. Pumice stones are safe to use on your oven’s interior because they don’t scratch or damage the surface. Unlike harsh chemicals or steel wool, pumice stones won’t leave any marks or scratches on your oven, making them a safe and effective cleaning option.
  2. Easy to use. Using a pumice stone to clean your oven is simple and straightforward. All you need is a bit of water and a pumice stone, and you’re good to go. Wet the stone and gently rub it over the dirty areas of your oven. The abrasive texture of the stone will help to remove any stubborn stains and grime.
  3. Cost-effective. Pumice stones are an affordable and cost-effective cleaning solution. You can purchase them in bulk for a low price, and they last for a long time. This means that you can keep your oven clean without breaking the bank.
  4. Multipurpose. Pumice stones are not just useful for cleaning ovens. They can also be used to clean a variety of other household items, including glass baking dishes, oven grates, and even toilets. This makes them a versatile and practical cleaning tool to have around the house.
  5. Natural. Finally, the big one, they are natural! When you use one, there is no need for extra chemicals. They do an impressive job on their own.

Things you will need

Before we get started, here’s what you’ll need:

Make sure the stone is wet before using it to clean the oven. You can also use gloves to protect your hands.

Protip: Use a pumice stone designed for cleaning, not the kind for removing dead skin from your feet.

Due to the porous nature of pumice, you can't properly sanitize it, so you won't want to reuse it on your skin!

Method

cleaning an oven with a pumice stone
  1. Remove the oven racks and clean them separately in a sink with warm water and a cleaning solution. My favorite, no scrub method is to soak them with a dishwasher tablet for a few hours. The burnt-on food stains should then wipe off pretty easily.
  2. Spray the inside of your oven with water or a mix of water and dish soap for extra cleaning power. Wet the pumice stone and gently scrub the inside of the oven. Be careful not to scrub too hard, as this can damage the oven’s surface. spraying oven with water
  3. Wipe away the loosened dirt with a damp microfiber cloth.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the oven is clean.
  5. Use the dry cloth to wipe down the inside of the oven and remove any excess water.
  6. Replace the oven racks and you’re done!

Remember to be patient and take your time. It may take a bit of elbow grease, but the end result will be worth it. Plus, you’ll be doing it without any harsh chemicals!

So, there you have it! A simple and effective way to clean your oven with a pumice stone.
